Kandi phrases, set in beads
Type the words you want on a cuff. Each letter is drawn as a grid of beads — seven beads tall, about six wide — with a printable PDF and a bead count for the chart. It plans colours, not stitch paths.
Letters use a seven-row uppercase font. Most characters take five columns plus a gap; narrow letters take fewer. Line breaks stack words. Check chart width against your stitch and a test strip.
Colour letters are internal chart symbols, not manufacturer SKUs. Screen colours are approximate.

Use a phrase as a colour chart
A phrase chart is a normal bead chart: each letter is made of beads, not a printed letter bead. Choose colours for the letter positions, then use a separate stitch tutorial to plan construction.
Two chart backgrounds:
- Letters in one colour, background in another. Easiest to read. Black letters on white beads, or white on black for a starker look.
- Background left empty. Only the letter positions are counted. How they connect depends on your stitch and construction.
The letters use seven rows; the tool adds a border row above and below. Longer text may suit a panel or several pieces, depending on your stitch.
Prefer a picture to words? The kandi pattern generator builds the same kind of chart from a photo, and the kandi ideas gallery has designs to pair with a phrase.
Sizing rules of thumb
- One line uses 7 letter rows and 2 border rows.
- One character ≈ 6 beads across, including the gap.
- Compare the chart width with a test strip in your chosen stitch.
- Use the cuff calculator for a rough material estimate.
- Stack two cuffs for a longer phrase.
What the export gives you
A real bead chart
Every cell is one bead, with the grid line every five so you can count across a long phrase without losing your place.
Exact bead count
The stats show total chart positions and beads. The PDF adds a count for each colour.
Print at 100%
The PDF includes a chart and colour list. Large charts may tile across A4 sheets; each sheet states its row and column range.
